Empowering the Next Generation of Roboticists
Challenge
The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) sought to modernize its robotics education as part of the latest iteration of their “Robotics & XR” master’s level course. The goal was to ensure that their students gained hands-on experience with the latest, state-of-the-art robotics development tools, particularly with the ROS 2 framework, while bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world industry practices.
Our Approach
Henki Robotics partnered with UEF to co-develop the course content and structure. We contributed to lectures, created new course materials, and implemented a series of hands-on exercise sessions tailored to help the students gain confidence in working with robotics fundamentals. Our team also actively supported students throughout the course, offering technical guidance and mentorship during the practical sessions.
To make the content accessible beyond the classroom, we open-sourced the “Robotics & ROS 2 Essentials” course on GitHub. This resource includes curated exercises built around the Gazebo simulator and the simulated Andino robot, covering topics such as ROS 2 basics, SLAM, odometry, and path planning.
Impact
- Helped UEF deliver a modern, industry-aligned robotics course
- Provided students with hands-on experience using real tools and frameworks like ROS 2
- Created an open-source course that continues to bring value to the global robotics community
- Strengthened the link between academia and industry by aligning education with real-world robotics development practices
